240 Certification is a state-approved Educator Preparation Program (EPP) that helps aspiring teachers in Texas earn full teaching certification through a flexible, affordable alternative certification route. It's designed for people who already hold a bachelor's degree—recent graduates and career changers alike.
How does the program work?
Apply with an online application, official transcripts, and a short questionnaire. Prepare with online coursework, pass your content test, and complete 50 hours of classroom-based experience. Teach in a full-time, paid internship once you receive your Statement of Eligibility. Certify by completing your teaching experience, coursework, and exams.
What are the admission requirements?
You need a bachelor's degree (or to be in the final semester of completing one) from an accredited university, and a 2.5 GPA—either overall or in your last 60 credit hours.
How long does the program take?
The full program typically takes 12–18 months, but many candidates begin teaching in just a few months after enrollment—once they finish their first coursework block, pass the content exam, and complete 50 hours of field-based experience. You have up to two years to finish all requirements.
How soon can I start teaching and get paid?
Most candidates can begin teaching within a few months. After your first coursework block, content exam, and 50 hours of field experience, you receive a Statement of Eligibility (SOE)—which lets you be hired as a full-time, paid teacher while you finish the program.
What does 240 Certification cost?
