How to Become a Teacher in Texas

Why 240 Certification

Quick Answer

Any TEA-approved Alternative Certification Program (ACP) can help you meet Texas certification requirements. What changes your experience is support and clear direction.

240 Certification is built to remove confusion, give you clear next steps, and connect you with real people who help you from start to finish. The goal is to help you get certified and feel ready to stay in the classroom long-term.

Key Takeaways

  • All TEA-approval ACPs follow the same state requirements, but support can look very different.
  • 240 Certification keeps the process clear so you always know what to do next.
  • You get Advisors, from admission to program, who support you all the way from admission to enrollment through certification.
  • 240 Tutoring is included to help you prepare for your TExES content exam.
  • 240’s goal is to help you finish with confidence and build a teaching career that lasts.

You shouldn't feel lost along the way to your own classroom.

At 240 Certification, the goal is simple: remove the confusion, give you clear next steps, and guide you through every milestone so you can keep moving forward with confidence.

Yes, any TEA-approved Alternative Certification Program (ACP) can help you check the boxes required to become a certified teacher in Texas. But support matters

The right program makes the process easier to understand so you can focus on becoming the teacher you want to be.

What makes 240 Certification different

Candidates, like you, want clarity, support, and someone to help them connect the dots from getting started to passing their exam to getting hired.

And that’s exactly what we do.

240 Certification is designed to make the path feel clear and supported, so you always know what you’re working on and you have real people to help you keep moving forward.

🔎 Clear next steps, every step of the way

You shouldn’t have to guess what to do next or wonder if you’re falling behind. We keep the process organized so you know:

  • what to focus on right now
  • what comes next
  • what each step helps you unlock

🤝 A real person in your corner

When you have a question, you won’t get bounced around or left searching for answers. You’ll have real people supporting you at every step, from Admissions to your Program Advisor and beyond. They help you understand the process, solve problems, and keep moving even when things feel confusing.

📝 Built-in test prep so you can feel confident

Passing your TExES content exam is a major milestone because it unlocks the next steps, like earning your Statement of Eligibility (SOE) and becoming eligible to be hired as an intern teacher.

That’s why 240 Tutoring is included.

You’ll use the best test prep in Texas to study with a plan and walk into your exam feeling ready. Being prepared matters, because retakes can slow down your timeline.

🥇 A plan that keeps you on track

You won't have to figure this out by yourself. We will help you stay focused on the right next step so you can keep moving toward big goals like getting approved for your test, earning your SOE, and getting hired for your internship.

Why 240 Certification exists

240 Certification was created for one simple reason: to take the confusion out of becoming a teacher in Texas

Our CEO went through alternative certification and remembers one feeling more than anything: confusion. Not knowing what came next. Not having anyone to guide the process. Feeling like one wrong move could set everything back.

That is why he started 240 Cert. It is a program that doesn't cause confusion. Instead, it guides you step-by-step with clear directions and real people to help you.

💭 We believe in your dream

Becoming a teacher takes courage and commitment. Many of the people supporting you at 240 Certification are former teachers, so we understand what it takes. We believe in you because we’ve been in your shoes.

We had this dream too, and we’re here to help yours come true.

🫶 This is more than a program to us

A lot of us are former teachers, and helping people become great teachers is part of what we care about most. Schools need strong, supported educators, and we take that seriously. We don’t want you guessing, and we don’t want you stuck. We want you moving forward, growing, and ready for the classroom.

💪 We’re building teachers who stay

Our goal is not just to help you get hired. It’s to help you become a strong, confident teacher who is prepared for the classroom and who has what it takes to stay in the profession.

Schools need great teachers, and we want to help you become one of them.

How it works at 240 Certification

Step 1: Talk to a real person

Like any good classroom, 240 is all about personal connection. You’ll have real support from real people.

At any point in the process, you can call us and talk to YOUR Admissions Advisor about YOUR situation and YOUR question. No need to guess or Google your way through it. We’ll help you understand what matters and point you to the right next step.

Every person’s path is a little different, and we’re here to help you sort that out.

Step 2: Apply online (it’s free!)

Submit your application for free at 240certification.com/apply.

After you apply, your Admissions Advisor will reach out and offer a quick hello call you can schedule. It’s a chance to ask questions, talk through your situation, and make sure you feel clear on what happens next.

Step 3: Create your applicant portal

After you apply, you’ll create your applicant portal. This is where you’ll upload documents, complete forms, and check your status.

Already applied? You can create your Applicant Portal account here

Step 4: Complete your application inside the portal

Inside your portal, you’ll follow a checklist to finish your application.

The two biggest next steps are:

  1. Upload your official transcripts. Refresh your memory on what an official transcript is here.
  2. Complete your “Tell Us About You” form.

Depending on your situation, the portal may ask for a few more items. But, you don’t have to guess about what your next step is. Your portal shows what is needed and what has already been received.

Step 5: Watch for updates and your invitation

Once everything is submitted, our Admissions team reviews your application. If you’re accepted, you’ll receive an invitation by email.

Next, you’ll complete a few steps to officially accept your invitation — like signing forms and making your first payment. You’ll also need a TEA ID if you don’t already have one. Then you’ll be ready to meet your Program Advisor.”

Once those steps are done, you’ll be fully set up and ready to meet your Program Advisor!

Step 6: Meet your Program Advisor

After you accept your invitation, your Program Advisor will reach out with next steps. They are your main point of contact throughout the program.

One of the first things they’ll do is help you schedule your Initial Advising Meeting (IAM). In that meeting, you’ll go over the program, talk through your goals, and build a simple plan that fits your timeline.

Here are a few things you’ll cover:

Choose your certification area and make sure it matches the job you’re working toward
How to access your coursework and what to focus on first
Your testing plan, including what it takes to earn test approval
Your SOE timeline, and what you’ll need to complete to get there
Any special situations, like being a late hire, transferring from another program, or already working in a school

Ready to get started?

If you’re feeling excited and a little unsure, you’re exactly where most future teachers start. You don’t have to have every detail figured out today. You just need a first step.

Apply to 240 Certification for free and create your applicant portal. From there, you’ll upload your official transcripts, complete your Tell Us About You form, and we’ll guide you through the rest.
